Just
as a son that respects his birth father but he fears his fathers discipline if
he wrongs we
are to fear Gods with respect if we do wrong.
We
are to fear God, not the world.
Evil
people don’t fear God, they fear the world.
The
fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
If
we are a non-Christian and a habitual sinner we are in grave danger. God hates
sin!
If
we are a Christian and we don’t stay tuned up and fight off sin we are in
danger.
As
Christians we fight off sin. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God.
God
is Holy and righteous.
We
are to walk like God, when we do He is pleased.
There
are dire consequences if we continue to sin as a Christian, we must ask for
forgiveness and follow God’s commandments.
Deuteronomy
10;12-13
12 “Now, Israel, what does the
Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all
His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul, 13 and to keep the Lord’s commandments
and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good.
Deuteronomy
10;20-21
20 You shall fear the Lord your
God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name. 21 He
is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things
for you which your eyes have seen.
Proverbs
1;1-7
1 The proverbs of Solomon the
son of David, king of Israel:
2
To
know wisdom and instruction,
To
discern the sayings of understanding,
3
To
receive instruction in wise behavior,
Righteousness,
justice and equity;
4
To
give prudence to the
naive,
To
the youth knowledge and discretion,
5
A
wise man will hear and increase in learning,
And
a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
6
To
understand a proverb and a figure,
The
words of the wise and their riddles.
7
The
fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
Hebrews
12
The Lord’s
Discipline
12 Therefore, since we are
surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight
and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for
us, 2 keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of
our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its
shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne
of God. 3 Think of him who endured such opposition against himself
by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up. 4 You
have not yet resisted to the point of bloodshed in your struggle against sin. 5 And
have you forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons?
“My
son, do not scorn the Lord’s discipline
or
give up when he corrects you.
6
“For
the Lord disciplines the one he loves and chastises every son he accepts.”
7 Endure
your suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is
there that a father does not discipline? 8 But if you do not experience
discipline, something all sons have shared in, then you are illegitimate and
are not sons.
9 Besides, we have experienced discipline from our earthly fathers
and we respected them; shall we not submit ourselves all the more to the Father
of spirits and receive life? 10 For they disciplined us for
a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we
may share his holiness. 11 Now all discipline seems painful at the
time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness
for those trained by it. 12 Therefore, strengthen your listless
hands and your weak knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet,
so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but be healed.
Do Not Reject God’s
Warning
14 Pursue
peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it
that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter
root springing up and causing trouble, and through him many become defiled.
16 And see to it that no one becomes an immoral or godless person
like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. 17 For
you know that later when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected,
for he found no opportunity for repentance, although he sought the blessing
with tears. 18 For you have not come to something that can be
touched, to a burning fire and darkness and gloom and a whirlwind 19 and
the blast of a trumpet and a voice uttering words such that those who heard
begged to hear no more. 20 For they could not bear what was
commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must
be stoned.” 21 In fact, the scene was so terrifying that
Moses said, “I shudder with fear.” 22 But you have
come to Mount Zion, the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to
myriads of angels, to the assembly 23 and congregation of the
firstborn, who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the
spirits of the righteous, who have been made perfect, 24 and to
Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks
of something better than Abel’s does.
25 Take care not to refuse the
one who is speaking! For if they did not escape when they refused the one who
warned them on earth, how much less shall we, if we reject the one who warns
from heaven? 26 Then his voice shook the earth, but now he has
promised, “I will once more shake not only the earth but heaven too.”
27 Now this phrase “once more” indicates the removal
of what is shaken, that is, of created things, so that what is unshaken may
remain. 28 So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us
give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion
and awe. 29 For our God is indeed a devouring fire.
Proverbs
1;20-33
Warning Against
Disregarding Wisdom
20
Wisdom
calls out in the street,
she
shouts loudly in the plazas;
21
at
the head of the noisy streets she calls,
in
the entrances of the gates in the city she utters her words:
22
“How
long will you simpletons love naiveté?
How
long will mockers delight in mockery
and
fools hate knowledge?
23
If
only you will respond to my rebuke, (discipline)
then
I will pour out my thoughts to you
and
I will make my words known to you.
24
However,
because I called but you refused to listen,
because
I stretched out my hand but no one paid attention,
25
because
you neglected all my advice,
and
did not comply with my rebuke,
26
so
I myself will laugh when disaster strikes you,
I
will mock when what you dread comes,
27
when
what you dread comes like a whirlwind,
and
disaster strikes you like a devastating storm,
when
distressing trouble comes on you.
28
Then
they will call to me, but I will not answer;
they
will diligently seek me, but they will not find me.
29
Because
they hated moral knowledge,
and
did not choose to fear the Lord,
30
they
did not comply with my advice,
they
spurned all my rebuke.
31
Therefore
they will eat from the fruit of their way,
and
they will be stuffed full of their own counsel.
32
For
the waywardness of the
simpletons
will kill them,
and
the careless ease of fools will destroy them.
33
But
the one who listens to me will live in security,
and
will be at ease from the dread of harm.
Psalm
36
1
Evil men do not fear God
An
evil man is rebellious to the core.
He
does not fear God,
2
for
he is too proud
to
recognize and give up his sin.
3
The
words he speaks are sinful and deceitful;
he
does not care about doing what is wise and right.
4
He
plans ways to sin while he lies in bed;
he
is committed to a sinful lifestyle;
he
does not reject what is evil.
5
O
Lord, your loyal love reaches to the sky;
your
faithfulness to the clouds.
6
Your
justice is like the highest mountains,
your
fairness like the deepest sea;
you
preserve mankind and the animal kingdom.
7
How
precious is your loyal love, O God!
The
human race finds shelter under your wings.
8
They
are filled with food from your house,
and
you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies.
9
For
you are the one who gives
and
sustains life.
10
Extend
your loyal love to your faithful followers,
and
vindicate the morally upright!
11
Do
not let arrogant men overtake me,
or
let evil men make me homeless!
12
I
can see the evildoers! They have fallen!
They
have been knocked down and are unable to get up.
Psalm
111
The Lord Praised
for His Goodness.
1
Praise the Lord!
I
will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In
the company of the upright and in the assembly.
2
Great
are the works of the Lord;
They
are
studied by all who delight in them.
3
Splendid
and majestic is His work,
And
His righteousness endures forever.
4
He
has made His wonders to be remembered;
The
Lord is gracious and compassionate.
5
He
has given food to those who fear Him;
He
will remember His covenant forever.
6
He
has made known to His people the power of His works,
In
giving them the heritage of the nations.
7
The
works of His hands are truth and justice;
All
His precepts are sure.
8
They
are upheld forever and ever;
They
are performed in truth and uprightness.
9
He
has sent redemption to His people;
He
has ordained His covenant forever;
Holy
and awesome is His name.
10
The
fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A
good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His
praise endures forever.
