Blood of Life



In the Bible, we learn about the importance of blood for life of all kinds of creatures and humans, We see that in the Old Testament and the new Blood of Jesus in the New Testament.
In the Old Testament, blood was used for sacrifices and protection, that’s what they were taught, that’s all they had.

We are warned in the Old Testament not to eat blood, even today, hunters drain the blood from the animals they kill.

In the New Testament, we are taught about Jesus' blood and the importance of how He shed His blood for us.
In addition, how we respect His Blood and Body when we take communion.

Blood is of life.
The life of all flesh is its blood.


Leviticus 17;11
for the life of every living thing is in the blood. So I myself have assigned it to you on the altar to make atonement for your lives, for the blood makes atonement by means of the life.

Genesis 4;10
But the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!

Genesis 9;6
“Whoever sheds human blood, by other humans must his blood be shed; for in God’s image God has made humankind.

Genesis 37;26
Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is there if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?



Genesis 37;31
So they took Joseph’s tunic, killed a young goat, and dipped the tunic in the blood.


Exodus 7;17
This is what the Lord has said: “By this you will know that I am the Lord: I am going to strike the water of the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned into blood.


Exodus 7;20-21
Moses and Aaron did so, just as the Lord had commanded. He raised the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile right before the eyes of Pharaoh and his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood21 When the fish that were in the Nile died, the Nile began to stink, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood everywhere in the land of Egypt!


Exodus 12;13
The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, so that when I see the blood I will pass over you, and this plague will not fall on you to destroy you when I attack the land of Egypt.


Exodus 12;22
Take a branch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and apply to the top of the door frame and the two side posts some of the blood that is in the basin. Not one of you is to go out the door of his house until morning.



Exodus 12;23
For the Lord will pass through to strike Egypt, and when he sees the blood on the top of the door frame and the two side posts, then the Lord will pass over the door, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you.

Exodus 24;6
Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and half of the blood he splashed on the altar.



Exodus 24;8
So Moses took the blood and splashed it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

Leviticus 7;26
And you must not eat any blood of the birds or of the domesticated land animals in any of the places where you live.



Leviticus 7;27
Any person who eats any blood—that person will be cut off from his people.’”

Leviticus 17;10
[ Prohibition against Eating Blood ] “‘Any man from the house of Israel or from the resident foreigners who live in their midst who eats any blood, I will set my face against that person who eats the blood, and I will cut him off from the midst of his people.



Leviticus 17;11

Leviticus 17;12
Therefore, I have said to the Israelites: No person among you is to eat blood, and no resident foreigner who lives among you is to eat blood.



Leviticus 17;13
“‘Any man from the Israelites or from the resident foreigners who live in their midst who hunts a wild animal or a bird that may be eaten must pour out its blood and cover it with soil.



Leviticus 17;14
for the life of all flesh is its blood. So I have said to the Israelites: You must not eat the blood of any living thing because the life of every living thing is its blood—all who eat it will be cut off.
