Circumcision

Circumcision

What is circumcision?

According to the scriptures there is physical circumcision by human hands
(which is nothing according to the Word) but far more important is the circumcision
of the fleshy body and the creation of a new body by Christ. (Colossians 2:11).
_______

1 Corinthians 7:19
Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Instead, keeping God’s commandments is what counts.

Galatians 5:6
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight—the only thing
that matters is faith working through love.

Galatians 6:15
For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that matters
 is a new creation!

Philippians 3:3
For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the Spirit of God, exult in Christ Jesus,
and do not rely on human credentials.

Colossians 2:11
In him you also were circumcised—not, however, with a circumcision
performed by human hands, but by the removal of the fleshly body, that is,
through the circumcision done by Christ.

Acts 7:8
Then God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision, and so he became the father
of Isaac and circumcised him when he was eight days old, and Isaac became the father
of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

Romans 2:25-29
25 For circumcision has its value if you practice the law, but if you break the law,
your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
26 Therefore if the uncircumcised man obeys the righteous requirements of the law,
will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
27 The physically uncircumcised man, by keeping the law, will judge you to be the
transgressor of the law, even though you have the letter and circumcision.
28 For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something
that is outward in the flesh,
29 but someone is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart by the Spirit
and not by the letter. This person’s praise is not from people but from God.

Romans 3:27-31
27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded! By what principle? Of works? No, but by the
principle of faith! 28 For we consider that a person is declared righteous by faith apart
from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of the Jews only? Is he not the God of the
Gentiles too? Yes, of the Gentiles too! 30 Since God is one, he will justify the circumcised
by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then nullify the law through faith?
Absolutely not! Instead we uphold the law.

Romans 4:11
And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith
while he was still uncircumcised, so that he would become the father of all those who believe
but have never been circumcised, that they too could have righteousness credited to them.

Galatians 2:12
Until certain people came from James, he had been eating with the Gentiles.
But when they arrived, he stopped doing this and separated himself because
he was afraid of those who were pro-circumcision.
